Alternatives

The SNDR alternative to Loops.

A Loops alternative for engineering teams that want a clean transactional API with idempotent send, signed retryable webhooks, and an operator console — not a SaaS marketing CRM with a transactional bolt-on.

Loops is a beautifully-designed marketing email tool with a transactional feature attached. For teams whose primary need is high-volume transactional infrastructure — order receipts, password resets, OTPs, system notifications — SNDR is a different shape of product: API-first, multi-MTA, observable per-box, with billing that does not assume a marketing team is in the loop.

Why teams switch

Where SNDR fits better than Loops.

Transactional ≠ marketing

Loops is excellent at journey-style marketing emails. SNDR is built around transactional and broadcast — every primitive (idempotency, signed webhooks, suppression, per-MTA analytics) optimises for those workloads.

Per-MTA observability

When deliverability drops on a single recipient ISP, SNDR shows the failing MTA pool member by name in the dashboard. Loops surfaces aggregate inbox rate — fine for marketing reports, slower for incident triage.

Replayable webhooks

Every delivery is recorded with response code and body; replay any payload from the admin in one click. Critical when a customer integration breaks during a launch.

Idempotency on send, automatic

The SDK auto-generates an Idempotency-Key per logical send and reuses it across retries. A transient 5xx cannot double-send an order receipt. With Loops this is your responsibility at the call site.

Operator console, not just a dashboard

Suspend an API key with a reason that ships verbatim in the user’s email. Replay any webhook. Watch live probes every 30 seconds. Built for the on-call engineer.

You can still send broadcasts

SNDR ships a broadcasts worker for one-off campaigns. It’s not a journey-builder; if your team needs nurture flows, complement with the right tool. If you need infrastructure, SNDR is the right shape.

Migration

Moving off Loops's SDK.

The SNDR SDK uses the same primitives as most modern email clients — install, instantiate with a key, call emails.send. In most codebases the migration is a focused diff.

  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Add @rkiza/sndr alongside loops. Both can run in parallel.

    pnpm add @rkiza/sndr
  2. 2

    Replace the send call

    Loops sendTransactionalEmail maps to sndr.emails.send. transactionalId becomes template_id; dataVariables becomes variables.

    // before
    import { LoopsClient } from 'loops';
    const loops = new LoopsClient(process.env.LOOPS_API_KEY!);
    await loops.sendTransactionalEmail({
      transactionalId: 'tx_welcome',
      email: 'a@b.com',
      dataVariables: { firstName: 'Alex' },
    });

    // after
    import { Sndr } from '@rkiza/sndr';
    const sndr = new Sndr(process.env.SNDR_API_KEY!);
    await sndr.emails.send({
      from: 'hello@yourdomain.com',
      to: 'a@b.com',
      subject: 'Welcome',
      template_id: 'tx_welcome',
      variables: { firstName: 'Alex' },
    });
  3. 3

    Migrate templates

    Loops templates use {{variableName}} placeholders. SNDR templates use the same {{ variable }} syntax. Most templates port over verbatim.

  4. 4

    Migrate webhook handlers

    Verify with the shipped helper; switch on the typed event union.

    import { verifyWebhookSignature } from '@rkiza/sndr';

    app.post('/webhooks/sndr', express.raw({ type: 'application/json' }), (req, res) => {
      if (!verifyWebhookSignature(req.body, req.header('x-sndr-signature') ?? '', process.env.SNDR_WEBHOOK_SECRET!)) {
        return res.status(400).send('bad signature');
      }
      res.status(200).send('ok');
    });
  5. 5

    Reuse your DNS, add SNDR DKIM

    Keep both providers in SPF during cutover. Add a fresh DKIM record under a new SNDR selector — Loops’ key stays in DNS unchanged.

No shade — Loops is a great product. SNDR just optimises for different things.
