Alternatives

The SNDR alternative to Brevo.

A developer-first Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) alternative — a clean typed SDK, idempotent send, signed retryable webhooks with replay, and per-MTA delivery observability.

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) is a broad CRM-style platform with transactional, SMS, chat, and marketing-automation modules. Teams whose primary need is high-quality transactional email infrastructure often want a tighter API surface, idempotent sends, replayable signed webhooks, and operator tooling — none of which sit at the centre of an all-in-one marketing CRM. That is the gap SNDR fills.

Why teams switch

Where SNDR fits better than Brevo.

A clean API instead of a CRM

Brevo’s strength is a comprehensive marketing CRM. SNDR’s strength is a focused transactional API. If you want a developer SDK without a UI to learn around it, SNDR is the smaller, sharper tool.

Signed webhooks that defend replay

Every payload includes a timestamp; the verifier rejects replays older than 5 minutes by default. Brevo’s default webhook security is IP-allowlist + optional token, which leaves more attack surface than a signed-body approach.

Per-MTA observability for incidents

Aggregate delivery rate is fine for marketing reports. When a single recipient ISP starts greylisting, SNDR surfaces the responsible MTA pool member by name. Brevo presents aggregate inbox rate.

Idempotency without app-layer plumbing

The SDK auto-generates an Idempotency-Key per logical send and reuses it across retries. A transient 5xx cannot double-deliver an order receipt.

A small operator console

Replay any webhook delivery, suspend a key with a reason that ships in the user’s email, watch live probes every 30 seconds. Designed for incidents.

Predictable USD billing

Three plans, fully transparent, billed in USD via Paddle as Merchant of Record. Tax, VAT, and reverse-charge handled per the customer’s jurisdiction.

Migration

Moving off Brevo's SDK.

The SNDR SDK uses the same primitives as most modern email clients — install, instantiate with a key, call emails.send. In most codebases the migration is a focused diff.

  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Add @rkiza/sndr alongside @getbrevo/brevo. Both can run in parallel during cutover.

    pnpm add @rkiza/sndr
  2. 2

    Replace the send call

    Brevo’s SendSmtpEmail maps to sndr.emails.send. The shape is flat instead of nested under message.

    // before
    import * as brevo from '@getbrevo/brevo';
    const api = new brevo.TransactionalEmailsApi();
    api.setApiKey(brevo.TransactionalEmailsApiApiKeys.apiKey, process.env.BREVO_API_KEY!);
    await api.sendTransacEmail({
      sender: { email: 'me@yourdomain.com' },
      to: [{ email: 'a@b.com' }],
      subject: 'hi',
      htmlContent: '<p>hi</p>',
    });

    // after
    import { Sndr } from '@rkiza/sndr';
    const sndr = new Sndr(process.env.SNDR_API_KEY!);
    await sndr.emails.send({
      from: 'me@yourdomain.com', to: 'a@b.com', subject: 'hi', html: '<p>hi</p>',
    });
  3. 3

    Migrate templates

    Brevo templates use {{ params.name }} placeholders. SNDR templates use {{ variable }}. The most common pattern is a find-and-replace of `params.` → ``.

  4. 4

    Migrate webhook handlers

    Brevo posts JSON to your URL with optional IP allowlist + token. SNDR posts JSON with an HMAC-SHA256 signature over a timestamp + raw body. Verify with the shipped helper.

    import { verifyWebhookSignature } from '@rkiza/sndr';

    app.post('/webhooks/sndr', express.raw({ type: 'application/json' }), (req, res) => {
      if (!verifyWebhookSignature(req.body, req.header('x-sndr-signature') ?? '', process.env.SNDR_WEBHOOK_SECRET!)) {
        return res.status(400).send('bad signature');
      }
      res.status(200).send('ok');
    });
  5. 5

    Reuse your DNS

    SPF can keep Brevo’s include during cutover. Add a fresh DKIM CNAME for the SNDR selector — Brevo’s record stays in DNS until you remove it after cutover.

No shade — Brevo is a great product. SNDR just optimises for different things.
